Once a year PWD Lovers from all across North America gather for a week of fun filled, but intense competition. The locations rotate between eastern, central and western locations within the USA. The event often exceeds 600+ Portuguese Water Dogs competing in Waterwork, Agility, Obedience, Rally, Scent Work, Tracking and culminates in the most prestigious PWD conformation event of the year.
For the two-legged members of the family, the National Specialty is an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. The event includes educational opportunities with speakers on breeding, training, genetics, etc. This is the place to get your PWD swag with many vendors offering PWD themed art, jewelery, clothes and equipment that you cannot find anywhere else. Social events range from beach parties, silent and live auctions, western themed casino nights to the culmination of the event at the Gala Awards Banquet.

The 2019 National Speciality in Greeley, CO was beyond our wildest expectations. Our highlights included Greg owner-handling Hollywood to repeat her 2016 win in Working Bitch and then going on to win an Award of Merit in the final ring. This put them in the top 12 of over 300 PWDs!! Hollywood then teamed up with her sister Ary to again repeat their 2016 win in Brace.
More importantly, this was the first time Whoosh bred puppies had the opportunity to show at the National specialty. We were thrilled with Whoosh Robel Jade Moon “Jade" going Reserve Winners Bitch! (2nd out of 67 bitches). Whoosh Robel Key West, in his first time in the ring, surprised everyone by going Best of Opposite Sex in the 4-6 month Baby Puppy class, handled by Greg. We were very pleased that Tique was 4th in her class. Other ribbons by Whoosh dogs in Rally, Obedience, and Agility. No ribbons for us in Water in 2019, because Greg was honored to Judge that event.
